Heading offshore with high hopes for Wahoo and Phins, bait was hard to find but managed a few dozen pilchards, cleared Gov. Cut by 7:00am, ran out until we saw our 1st frigate sent out the trolling spread and 1st fight of the day was on, it would be a big skipjack, not what we wanted but fun fight for 1 of the youngsters. Re set the spread and we come tight on a tripleheader of dolphin, all 3 of the youngsters would catch a dolphin, although all were too small. As we clean up I look up and see a 6-8 ft. piece of bamboo, and we are on again, this time it would be our 1st Wahoo, minutes later a 2nd Wahoo. As we pass the bamboo we see a few decent size dolphin to pitch at, we would boat 2 keepers, all this and it is only ~ 10:30am, we trolled for another ˝ hour and decided to call it a good day (or so we thought), on the way in I see almost an identical piece of bamboo so we “had” to try this 1 as well, as soon as we set out the spread and pass the piece of bamboo we are tight… Wahoo # 3 proceed to set up and pass again and we get our biggest Wahoo of the day # 4. All the action was on rigged ballyhoo some naked and a few with various lures. All in all a great day of fishing with lots of action the seas were a little bigger than predicted but very manageable, these our the days that you thank god that you live in South Florida. |
