Had the pleasure of taking Robert and his son Nick from the northeast out in search of a billfish and maybe a dolphin or two, we decided to meet at the Miami Beach Marina and headed through the cut, we were greeted with big rollers heading out, we maneuvered our way out to approx. 200 feet and we set out the goggle eyes, at the 160 ft. mark we have our 1st bite and it was a sail, Nick got to fight it for a quick minute only to have him spit the hook!!! We re set the lines and immediately had another hit on a goggle eye, it was another sailfish this one Nick managed after a lengthy battle to get him boat side and we got the leader but were unable to secure him for any pics, that was the longest battle we have seen to date on a sail. Great Job by Nick!!!! The rollers did not seem to lie down at all so we decided to troll our way in and within 5 minutes 1 of the rigged ballyhoos with Ilander skirt gets nailed, we were all hoping for a dolphin but it wound up being a barracuda. Final tally for a little over 2 hours of fishing was 1 for 2 on sails (released) and a barracuda (released). Hoping the dolphin are on their way to our waters.
Until Next Time
