Decided to fish the FIU tourney again this year, with all indications pointing us in the 20 mile plus range , we were off and running bright and early clearing the cut loaded with live pilchards, ballyhoo, squid and every other imaginable pitch bait by a little after 6:00am, our 1st stop were a few birds working around the 20 mile mark, as soon as we pitched a few livies, we see a small yellow plastic floater that happened to be loaded with schoolies , we took a few for the box and moved on, we then set up the trolling gear and had a knockdown around 25 miles out, which lead us to a huge school of keeper dolphin that we played with for a while, keeping a few of the bigger ones in the process, we tried jigging but we could not find any money fish, so we re gathered ourselves and off we went in search of some bigger phins, we did have 1 knockdown that seemed like a decent fish , but it was not meant to be as it spit the hook, we trolled our way back through some somewhat”fishey” waters without a knockdown. All in all plenty of dolphin out there, as we kept ~ 20 and released an equal amount if not more.
Until Next Time
