Made the crossing over to Bimini for a few days of fishing searching for yellowtails and hoping to find the yellowfins, we could not have asked for better weather as the ocean was flat calm all 4 days, we were able to run across comfortable as well as run out to the gingerbreads each day. On Thursday we left Miami about 9:00am and arrived at the Bimini Sands by 11:00am, we proceeded to clear customs and then went out front to do some trolling, we had numerous knockdowns the best fish being a 25+ lb. Blackfin tuna (although we only got the head to the boat), we were not able to get anything past the sharks and/or cudas, we must have reeled in a half dozen cudas in 1 hour. We did manage to grab a few schoolie dolphin for dinner so we called it a day, Day 2 the plan was to run out to the gingerbreads in search of yellowfin tuna, we did see some birds working but were unable to land anything so we moved inshore to fish the afternoon, we managed a 40 lb. kingfish as well as numerous other kings , a few cudas, and many other species, but the highlight of the day was a big tiger shark that would eat a 75+ lb. amberjack boat side as we got it to the surface then devoured a cuda that we tied off the cleat. Day 3 we would start the day off looking for yellowtail snappers, after about a ½ run we got comfortable in our spot and started chumming, and much to our delight we were greeted by the YT`s, we made quick work of them as it only took about a ½ hour to limit out, so we went looking for yellowfin tuna again and although we were able to find some birds working we were unable to position ourselves to land a tuna, the reports had a few boats picking up yellowfins so it looks like they are showing up. On Sunday we made breakfast and headed back from a long but great weekend of fishing and once again we were greeted with calm seas and made it back to Miami.
Until Next time
