On Saturday we headed offshore with the hope of putting Kevin on his 1st billfish, we were greeted by calmer than expected seas, the wind was blowing out of the west so we set up our drifts slightly shallower than normal, as we are setting up the kite 1 of the flat lines goes off and Kevin is on the rod in 90 ft. of water,, after about 30 minutes we are still wondering what is he fighting??? The fish was running like a sail but never jumped, finally the fish decided to poke it`s head out of the water and it is a beautiful SAIL, still he has not done any tail walking nor jumped, Kevin decided he needed a break and Aaron took over for a few minutes than Joe, after a battle of almost an hour and a half the sail managed to snap the line at boat side. By now it was almost noon and we decided now that we were in 700 ft. of water!!!!! We would try to troll our way back to the sailfish grounds on the way in 1 bait got nailed but nothing to show for it, by now the winds were howling but we tried a few more drifts but no more sails.
Sunday was booked for a half day as Kevin was heading back to Alabama as well as it was Super Bowl Sunday, we set out the goggle eyes and we get our 1st hit, the fish is hooked and Aaron is on the rod, after a short fight we had a Bonita, we managed numerous other hits, although mostly kingfish, the chatter on the radio was very slow as numerous boats grabbed a Bonita here and there, but no sailfish to really write about, the bite has been hot, so call us and book an exciting day of bill fishing aboard the Lucky 7 and join the list of anglers to catch their 1st bill fish with us, or just come out and enjoy a great of fishing.
Until Next time
